If you ask anyone who knows me, I have had the honor to attend many, many concerts. Last month I was able to see three legends that have been my music bucket list. Barbra Streisand, Adele and Stevie Wonder! All of them have their own special sound but they are all alike in one way. They are comfortable in their own skin of who they are. They go after what they want and are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in. They speak their own truth.
How many of us today do not speak our truth or stand up for what we believe in? Do we say what we think others want to hear, whether we are talking to a parent, a boss, a friend or a first date? Later do we regret not speaking our truth?
I think most of us from time to time do not speak our truth out of fear. Fear of being judged, fear of being wrong or more importantly, fear of not being loved or accepted. And isn’t that what we all are longing for? To be loved and accepted?
Can we truly receive something we are not fully giving? If we do not speak our truth, then what we get back is not the full truth. How can it be? You get back what you give out. As the saying goes, you reap what you sow.
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” by Ralph Waldo Emerson
Barbra, Adele and Stevie speak and live their own truth and that is why they are living legends. They are all strong, creative, independent people who know what they want and go after it. Adele said at her concert her idols were Bette Midler, Beyoncé and Stevie Nicks. Again, strong people who know what they want and go after it with no excuses. They are not afraid to show the world who they really are. They are living their soul’s purpose and the life they were meant to live. Are you? If not, why?
Speak your truth. Live your truth. Be comfortable with who you really are, flaws and all. Be strong. Just be you. That is all that is ever asked of you – to just be yourself! As Oscar says…
“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” Oscar Wilde
