Summer Solstice is June 20 this year and marks the longest day of sunlight for most of the world. (The polar areas have daylight continuously this time of year.) This event is celebrated throughout the world with rituals, festivals and events. For many, this time marks the beginning of summer and time to get outside in nature whether that is going to the beach, the mountains, a river or a park.
Summer Solstice has been celebrated for thousands of years. The ancient Greeks marked the one month countdown to the Olympic Games. The Aztecs, Mayans and Egyptians built temples and buildings that were perfectly aligned with the solstices. Some Native Americans still participate in sun dances to celebrate the event. And probably the most famous, Stonehenge has been a place of worship and celebration of summer solstice for thousands of years. It just proves that our ancestors truly observed the sun and astrological changes to live their daily lives.
To me is signifies a time to renew. To change whatever is not working for you into a life that you want. What do you want your life to look like? Make a list of what you want personally, professionally and emotionally. You may also make a list of what you do not want. Sometimes the list that we do not want is a more powerful tool to make the changes that we want to see in our lives.
Create the life that you want to live! You do have the power to change! Let the energy of the sun and the calming of nature inspire you to create the life you dreamed of just as it inspired ancient cultures centuries ago. You may not build a temple or pyramid but you do have the power to build the life you want. Start creating today.
What are you waiting for?
