Many people say just find your passion. But what if you are not sure what it is? Here are 4 steps to help you discover it.

1. Make a List of What You Love to Do

Start by creating a list of what excites you or makes you happy. Here are some prompts to help you discover your passions.

“What do I like to learn or talk about?” If you want to learn more about a certain topic or love to talk about it, this can be a clue to what excites you. Maybe you can incorporate this into your current work. Sometimes it’s not about looking for something new, but about merging your passion into what you already do. I love talking and learning about mindset, so I started writing about it.

“What did I love to do as a child?” If being outside, dancing, or drawing is what you loved to do as a child, bring this into your daily life. Even a few minutes a day, doing what you love to do can bring in joy.

“Where do I spend my free time?” Look at the type of books you read, music you listen to, activities you engage in, or even your credit card charges. You usually spend money on what makes you happy.

All of the above questions can lead to you find your passion.

2. Believe It’s Possible

Change limiting beliefs and shift your mindset to It’s possible instead of It won’t work. We all have negative thoughts creeping around in our head. The goal is to lessen the noise. Overcome your doubts and fears by changing your internal dialogue. One way to do this is to create a mantra, such as I can do it. You can also make a statement that your passion already exists. Let’s say you want to write a book but haven’t completed it yet. Instead of saying, “I want to be an author,” say “I am a published author.” Visualize and feel what it’s like to already have it. Dream big!

3. Try New Experiences

Get out of your comfort zone. This is uncomfortable to do at first because change can be hard. But to get to a new place, you have to do something different. And new experiences can help us to find our passion or even a new one.

4. Start Doing

Do a small action step each day. As they say, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” It may take some time to get you where you want to go, but you can get there with some work. A little effort can go a long way. When you create a life around something you love, joy can’t help but follow!
