If you know me, then you know I’m passionate about books! Reading is one of my favorite things to do!
It is through books that I have discovered new interests, like quantum physics. Every new idea or topic brings with it a new set of questions and heightens my curiosity to learn more. It’s a never-ending adventure.
Books allow people to connect and find a common ground. Whether the link is with each other, nature, or the universe, a kinship grows through the author’s words. Poets, such as Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, and William Wordsworth, wrote about this union. Walt Whitman’s, On the Beach at Night Alone, describes this interconnection, “A vast similitude interlocks all.”
By reading other people’s stories, we can feel united and may relate to those who have walked a similar path. Books open us up to whole new worlds by expanding imagination, igniting inspiration, and introducing us to fresh insight and wisdom. Reading helps broaden my understanding of life by allowing me to peer into another’s mind. When we look through a window into their life’s journey, we see the world from their point of view. As a life-long learner, I am always on the path to studying various beliefs and ideas.
Voices from the Past
Books can be voices from the past—even though the messages may be worded a bit differently, some share similar meanings. Examples are found in ancient religious and spiritual texts that write of loving one another as yourselves, not judging others, and believing in a divine creator through which everything was born. Though these texts were communicated centuries and thousands of miles apart, they help validate similar ideas across different locales and time periods, confirming our connection.
A book is made from a tree…One glance at it and you hear the voice of another person, perhaps someone dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, the author is speaking, clearly, and silently, inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people, citizens of distant epochs, who never knew one another. Books break the shackles of time―proof that humans can work magic.
