follow your heart

In the intricate tapestry of life, there exists a timeless piece of advice that resonates with us all: “Follow your heart.” This simple yet profound mantra serves as a guiding light, urging individuals to navigate their life’s journey with purpose and passion. Let’s explore the significance of following your heart, the challenges it may present, and the rewards it can bring.

Understanding the Call

Your heart often whispers desires, dreams, and aspirations that resonate with your true self. It’s a compass pointing towards what truly matters to you. Whether it’s a career change, a personal relationship, or a creative pursuit, recognizing and understanding the call of following your heart is the first step towards a more fulfilling life.

Overcoming Fear and Doubt

Embarking on a path guided by your heart can be daunting. Fear and doubt may cloud your judgment, leading to hesitation. It’s essential to acknowledge these emotions and understand that growth often lies on the other side of discomfort. Embrace the unknown, for it is in stepping out of your comfort zone that you discover your true capabilities.

Embracing Resilience

Following your heart is not always a linear journey. There will be setbacks, challenges, and moments of uncertainty. Yet, it is through these trials that resilience is forged. Embrace the bumps along the road, for they are part of the narrative that makes your journey uniquely yours.

Finding Authenticity When You Follow Your Heart

Authenticity is the heartbeat of a life lived in alignment with one’s true self. By following your heart, you uncover layers of authenticity within yourself. It’s about staying true to your values, passions, and beliefs, even when faced with external pressures or societal expectations.

Cultivating Passion

Passion is the fuel that propels you forward on the path of your heart’s calling. Whether it’s a creative endeavor, a humanitarian cause, or a personal goal, infusing passion into your pursuits not only brings joy but also sustains your motivation during challenging times.

Follow Your Heart Questions

What do you feel pulled to do?

Do you ever feel like there’s a magnetic pull guiding you towards something? This pulling is different for everyone. For me, it was writing. This feeling wouldn’t go away. I had no choice but to do it.

I would not have called myself a writer, but a decade ago I felt pulled to journal all the facts and feelings that surrounded my husband’s unexpected death. The act of writing down my emotions set me on the path to healing.

All of the sudden thoughts would appear, like The Power of Gratitude, The Blame Shame Game, Flip the Script, or Building Courage, and I felt an urgent need to write. I couldn’t get rid of this feeling until I took action. I would write for approximately two hours, and then the inspiration would vanish as quickly as it appeared. I realized I was being given rough chapters for a book. And that is how my first book, Wake Up! Change Up! Rise Up!: Practical Tools for Personal Transformation, was born. I didn’t wake up one morning and decide to write a book. The inspiration for the book came to me. I followed my heart’s calling.

The takeaway is to pursue your inspiration, regardless of its size or perceived craziness. You never know where it will take you.

What makes you feel truly alive?

With the constant external noise and demands on our time, it’s easy for this feeling to become buried. Discovering it requires us to trust our intuition, and the most effective method I’ve found is through stillness. Sit in silence and ask yourself, “If there were no obstacles, what would I do?” or “What sparks my interest?” This doesn’t mean you have to quit your job, but you could carve out a little time each week to work on it. Spending a mere hour every week could be all you need to feel fulfilled. You could also consider launching a side hustle and exploring its potential as a full-time profession.

Maybe this alive feeling is a hobby, like biking or fishing. Or helping others through volunteer work. Uncovering your true passion can pave the way to a fulfilling existence.

What brings joy to your heart?

Doing things that bring us joy can be a clue to finding your purpose. It’s important to set aside a small portion of our day for activities that make us happy. Our inner voice might offer help by pointing us in the right direction. Engaging in activities that bring us joy not only replenishes us, but also enhances our ability to tackle challenges.

In Bronnie Ware’s book, The Top Five Regrets of Dying, number five is “I wish I would have let myself be happier.” She said that this was a common regret and people didn’t realize that happiness is a choice. You are in charge of your own life and your happiness. Happiness comes from within. So discover what brings you joy and do that. It will bring you peace. Here are the top five regrets. https://bronnieware.com/blog/regrets-of-the-dying/

What would you wish you had tried if you were near the end of your life?

This can be a hard question to answer because we don’t want to face our mortality. When we look back on our lives, is there something we wish we had done? It might provide the answer we’ve been looking for.

Follow Your Heart

In a world that often encourages conformity, following your heart is an act of courage and self-discovery. It requires introspection, resilience, and a commitment to living authentically. As you navigate the intricate maze of life, let your heart be the compass that guides you towards a purposeful and passionate existence. Embrace the journey and follow your heart. Remember, the road less traveled is often the one that leads to the most fulfilling destinations.
