Have you ever had similar personality types or challenging situations keep appearing in your life? Maybe you keep picking the “wrong guy” or you have people take advantage of your generosity or time. You may ask yourself why am I dealing with this once again. I believe I have found the answer in her new book, “The Universe Has Your Back” by Gabrielle Bernstein.
Gabby states “The world is your classroom and people are your assignment.” When I read that statement, my whole body felt that to be true. I have heard other people say something similar, but for some reason, whether it is how Gabby stated it or maybe it was just “my time” to hear that message, it resonated with me deeply. This time I did not just hear the message. I felt it. Now I understand why certain types of people or situations keep showing up. It is because I have not learned my lesson yet, so the Universe keeps popping these people or situations into my life until I do!
She goes on to say “You can’t avoid the assignment – you can only postpone it”. Wow! How true is that? If you don’t deal with the situation, it will keep coming back to you until you learn from it. I also believe what irritates us about certain people is usually something that we do ourselves. We just don’t see it. The Universe is using that person as a mirror for us to see that trait in ourselves.
“The universe has shaken you to awaken you (It’s not punishment, it’s just a lesson)” by Mastin Kipp.
I have always believed (as does Gabby) that you are not given more than you can handle. Even though there are times when you are thinking I can’t deal with anymore or “Really God?” Those are the lessons that you have to dig way down deep into yourself, to the bottom of your soul to find out how to crawl back out. You need to deal with the emotions and feel them no matter how painful they are and do the work to get to the other side. Sometimes you will need help, like a therapist, to help you find your way out because you cannot see the problem or how to get back out. It is ok to ask for help. Maybe that is one of the Universe’s intentions: to ask others for help. It is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength. Strength that you want to feel better and you need the help of others to do that. We are all connected and dependent on each other to make the world go round. And once you have learned that lesson, it is now your job to help others. When you teach what you have learned, you learn the lesson so much more deeply.
Gabby talks about compassion and that you should give yourself love and compassion. You need to feel your feelings and not hide from them to heal old wounds. Have compassion for yourself, love yourself and the Universe will show you the way. Gabby has a prayer to help you deal with these challenges. “Thank you, Universe, for presenting me with this divine assignment for spiritual growth and healing. I am ready and willing to show up for this assignment with love. I welcome your support. Show me where to go, what to do, and what to say. I trust that I am being guided.” How powerful is that? It changes your thinking from why is this happening to me to what can I learn from this.
The Universe is your teacher. Acknowledge the assignment, take responsibility and your part in it, do the work you need to do to learn the lesson, then move on to heal yourself so you do not have to deal with this challenge again. See the light! You have the power. You can do it! I believe in you! And of course, the Universe believes in you too otherwise you would not have received the assignment in the first place. Take charge and carry on!
