Did you know that living in the present could bring great happiness? When we live in the moment, we are truly living this life. We appreciate everything more. Even a small event can bring us great joy. Too often we are living in the past or planning the future that we forget about the “now”. We live as if the present does not exist.
We live in the past by thinking of good times of our younger years or how we could have done something differently. But we cannot change the past no matter how hard we try or how much we want things to be different. We need to accept the past as it is and to let it go. By living in the past, all we do is hurt ourselves and we do not move forward.
We also live in the future by planning what we want our lives to look like. We may have a checklist of items that we have to do before we can move on to something else. A couple of examples would be “I am not going to have a baby until I turn 30” or “until I lose 10 pounds, I will not date.” We should examine the “rules” we create for ourselves and see if they fit into what we really feel and want. I know I do not want to look back in 10 years and wishing I had taken a chance. This blog is a great example of me taking a chance.
“Time isn’t precious at all, because it is an illusion. What you perceive as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: the Now. That is precious indeed. The more you are focused on time—past and future—the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is.” -Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now
I want to appreciate the moments of each day and be grateful for them, whether they are good or bad. I want to strive to live in the present. After all, that is all we have. We are not guaranteed another day or even the rest of this day. So take a moment during the day, and appreciate your breath and for this wonderful gift we have been given: The Present. Because that is what this moment is – a gift of time! Share the gift of you with others and when you do, you will be truly living in the present!
Give yourself a present (gift) to be present in this moment of time! Live for today!!!
