Be Bold and Explore!
I love the following quote –
“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
How often do we mindlessly take the same path or do the same thing? Every day? Do you always take the same way to work, stop at the same coffee shop or buy the same groceries every week? We all do this to some extent. But what if we forged a new path? What would happen? Maybe if we tried a new coffee shop we would like their coffee better or their service. Or if we bought a new ingredient and tried a new recipe, we may find out that we have a new favorite food.
I did this yesterday with a new cauliflower recipe which was amazing! In addition I experimented with a new clam recipe which was good but not great. But if I did not try something new, I would not have found this incredible cauliflower recipe!
I wonder why we do the same things over and over again. Is it out of comfort or safety because we know the current path works or because we don’t want to make a decision about trying something new? We have so much going on in our lives that we cannot handle thinking about something new so we keep going to the same coffee shop because that is the least stressful decision. We know what to expect. Expectation. Maybe that is the bigger reason why we do the same things every day. We don’t want to be disappointed.
But what is wrong with a little disappointment? I believe that some disappointment is healthy because it makes us realize what we don’t like and in the process we change and grow a bit more. Life is full of changes and the more we embrace them, the more we grow.
Try one new thing this week whether it is a different route to work, a new coffee shop, a new recipe or something big like striking up a conversation with the person behind you in the new coffee shop that you have decided to expand yourself and try. If you are a person who does not do well with change, take baby steps. Instead of having a latte in your regular coffee shop, try a cappuccino or a drip coffee. Just try something new!
Be bold and take a new path. You make be pleasantly surprised where you end up!
