Self-care is vital in today’s world. We’re bombarded with messages, notifications, to-do lists, and demands, which can take a toll on our body, mind, and spirit. No wonder we feel drained. This affects our energy, thoughts, and nervous system. It’s time to destress.
In honor of Relaxation Day on August 15, let’s give ourselves permission to take a break, pause, and slowdown from life’s daily stresses. Here are some self-care suggestions.
Self-Care Tips to Reset
- Soak up some nature and go for a walk.
- Practice deep breathing. A few breaths can lessen stress.
- Garden. It very grounding.
- Watch a sunset or sunrise.
- Go for a swim or lay by the pool.
- Journal a few things you are grateful for.
- Meditate to soft music or nature sounds, even if it’s just a few minutes.
- Drink an herbal tea slowly, savoring each sip.
- Try yoga, Qi Gong, or other relaxing exercises that feel good to your body.
- Unplug and take a break from technology.
- Curl up under a blanket and read a book.
- Treat yourself to a massage, facial, or even a DIY foot soak.
- Play and have fun! Go fly a kite, ride a bike, dance, or play ball.
- Take an Epsom salt bath to relax your muscles and replenish some of the magnesium lost through stress.
Whatever you do, engage in self-care activities (yes, you can do more than one), that bring in joy, lighten your mood, or make you feel calmer.
Hit the Pause Button
Stop. Tune in and listen to your inner self. Reflect on what your body and thoughts are saying. Does your gut feel off, are your thoughts spiraling, or your mind racing? Your body is trying to speak to you. Pay attention to the internal signs.
And if you don’t have a self-care ritual already in place, create one. It can be as simple as taking a few deep breaths, savoring your morning beverage, or gratitude journaling before bed.
Take time every day for self-care to refill your cup. You might not replenish yourself fully, but even a few moments will help. You can’t give others what you don’t already have, so start with you. Make yourself a priority. Your future self will thank you!
Love to hear what self-care activities you do to destress or relax!
