We talk a lot about ‘hitting rock bottom’ as the thing that changes us. But here’s what I’ve learned: most people don’t need a crisis; they need a catalyst. And sometimes you need to reinvent yourself.

For me, it wasn’t a dramatic collapse. It was sitting in the Medford airport waiting for a plane when my business partner said, “I don’t know how to tell you this, but you haven’t been happy.”

I started crying right the in the airport. The tears seemed to come out of nowhere. It wasn’t until she said that statement that I realized I was not happy. Later, I realized that I was managing my life instead of living it.

That moment became the seed of everything I now teach — and ultimately the book I wrote for every person who’s been waiting for their wake-up call:

Wake Up! Change Up! Rise Up!: Practical Tools for Personal Transformation

What Waking Up Actually Looks Like

Waking up isn’t about motivation. Motivation is fleeting. It’s about decision.

Research from Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck confirms what I experienced firsthand: the belief that you can change is the prerequisite to actually changing. Without that foundational mindset shift, all the productivity hacks in the world don’t stick.

Waking up means:

  • Owning your story — not as a victim of it, but as the author
  • Questioning the default — is this life chosen, or just inherited?
  • Taking one honest look at where you’ve been sleepwalking

It’s not comfortable. But it’s where real transformation begins to reinvent yourself.

Change Up: The Middle Part Nobody Glamorizes (Reinventing Yourself)

Here’s where most people stall. They have the wake-up moment. They feel inspired for a week. Then life and all its demands creeps back in.

Change requires structure. Not willpower, but actual action steps. That’s how you reinvent yourself. Know that it takes time and you don’t need to do everything at once. One small action begins the reinvention journey.

Inside Wake Up! Change Up! Rise Up!, I walk through the practical tools I used to help me to create the structure and change my life:

  • Rewriting the self-talk and beliefs that keep you small
  • Building daily habits that reinforce who you’re becoming (not just who you’ve been)
  • Identifying small shifts that creates momentum in everything else

Small. Doable. Consistent. Compounding. That’s the change-up formula.

Here’s what I did. I made the choice, the decision to sell my half of the business. This was not an easy choice, since this business was such a part of me and my identity, but I decided it was time.

Now, this didn’t happen overnight. Far from it. It took 18 months before I was able to leave. Yes, there were many challenges and obstacles, and a lot of weight gain, before I walked out the door for the last time.

But a few weeks later, I started seeing the “old me” returning. Slowly, steadily, and definitely happier.

Rise Up: What’s Waiting on the Other Side

This is the part I love most to talk about because it’s real, and possible, and most people don’t believe it until they’re living it.

When you wake up to your potential and change your inner operating system, you don’t just feel better. You show up differently; in your relationships, your work, your sense of purpose. And most importantly, for you.

Research published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology found that people who pursue personally meaningful goals (not just externally rewarded ones) report significantly higher well-being and life satisfaction. Rising up isn’t about achieving more. It’s about becoming more you.

Your Next Step on Reinventing Yourself

You don’t need a crisis to start. You just need a decision.

If something in this resonates, Wake Up! Change Up! Rise Up! was written for exactly this moment in your life. It’s practical. It’s personal. And it meets you exactly where you are.
